How does BattlEye actually catch people in PUBG? Trying to figure out the real risk

Open thread

Figured we should have one proper thread on this because the question is everywhere. PUBG uses BattlEye as its anti cheat. Nobody outside the company knows exactly what it checks, so anyone who tells you they know every detail is guessing.

What we can say: it gets updated, the game gets patched, and what was fine last month is not guaranteed to be fine this month. No cheat is risk free and we are not going to pretend otherwise.

Ask whatever you want about it. We will answer what we can and say "no idea" when we don't know.

"no idea" is going to be the most used phrase in this thread lol

Something useful to know: bans do not always land right away. Plenty of players in the wider community talk about delayed ban waves, so "nothing happened today" does not mean "all good". Treat it as unknown, not as safe.

ok dumb question, does it ban the account or the PC?

Can be both. An account ban sticks to the login. Some bans also tie to hardware IDs, which is the whole reason spoofers exist. Different problem though, there's a separate thread on it.

so if i just make a new account im fine right

Not necessarily. If the hardware itself is flagged, a fresh account on the same PC can run into the same wall. That is the part people get wrong.

a guy told me a vpn fixes that

A VPN changes your IP address. It does not change your hardware serials. Not the same thing.

Practical bit: always look at the status page before you launch, especially right after a PUBG patch. If you are not sure, wait. Waiting costs you an evening, a ban costs you more.
